SUBJECT
As part of Pop-Kultur Festival 2020, Pamela Owusu-Brenyah and her community platform AFRO x POP curated a talk about the Do-It-Yourself principle of African music festivals.
The important discussion brought together Elena Schulz-Görner (Senior Booking Manager), Jumoke Adeyanju (journalist and founder of Poetry Meets Series) and Wale Davies, founder of the Nigerian Palmwine Music Festival and rap duo Show Dem Camp. He discussed how African musicians are largely ignored by major international festivals like Coachella, which only started booking artists from Africa in the late 2010s. Davies spoke about the inspiration for Palmwine Music Festival and the importance of building a network of African touring artists.
